Canoeing the Raquette River

For the 4th of July weekend this year we camped at Rollins Pond Campground in the Adirondack Park. We had a wonderful time and one of the highlights was the 6 mile canoe trip on the Raquette River.

We started the journey a short distance from the campground at a boat lunch known as the “Crusher.” Don’t let the name fool you, it is a very peaceful river (the location get’s name from a former gravel crushing operation that was nearby). Located downstream from the launch is Big Tubber Lake (7 miles) and upstream is Raquette Falls (15.5 miles).

We were only doing a short out & back trip we decided to head upstream to make the return a little easier.
